Euphoria, in a non-medical sense, means a feeling of great happiness or well-being. When a person is euphoric because of happy or exciting life events, it is a wonderful state of mind. In bipolar mania and hypomania, however, a state of euphoria is generally not connected to anything happening in the person's life, but is exaggerated by changes in brain chemistry and is considered an abnormal mood state.
